The Seiko Astron HAB003J1 is the black-and-gold reference in the new GPS Solar Dual-Time Chronograph range, and the one that trades the titanium bracelet for a black extra-strength silicone strap. That swap changes the whole character. Where the bracelet models read as travel hardware, this one reads as sport — gold-tone plating on part of the titanium bezel, with matching gold-coloured indexes and hands against a black textured dial.
Underneath it is the same new Calibre 5X63: the first Astron movement to run its chronograph out to 24 hours in 1/20-second increments, with split-time capability, and the first to put the second time zone on a 24-hour sub-dial. The case measures 43.4mm across and 12.4mm thick — slimmer than the outgoing generation — and takes Seiko's quick-change strap system, so the silicone comes off at the press of a button with no tools involved.

Why You'll Love It
- Black and gold on silicone is the sportiest execution in the range. The gold-tone bezel plating and dial furniture give it warmth without the formality that a full metal bracelet brings.
- A 24-hour chronograph. Most stopwatches cap out at 12 hours, which means anything longer has to be tracked in your head. This one measures a full day in one go, with split times along the way.
- It sets itself. The watch connects to the GPS network to adjust its time and time zone, with a high-speed time zone adjustment and automatic daylight saving correction on top.
- Light alone runs it — approximately six months from a full charge, with a power save mode of around two years. No battery to replace.
- Extra-strength silicone is built for wear that a leather strap would not survive: humidity, sweat, and rinsing under a tap afterwards. In Singapore that matters more than it does in most markets.
- The quick-change system means one press of a button swaps the strap. Seiko's compatible silicone straps come in white and black, so the same watch can shift register in seconds.
- At 12.4mm, this is the slimmest case the Astron chronograph has worn, with a two-piece octagonal bezel designed to sit the weight low for better balance.
- Perpetual calendar to 2100 and a world time function covering 38 time zones — the date and day never need correcting, and the whole map is on the watch.

Key Features
- Calibre 5X63 GPS Solar movement — the newest GPS Solar calibre in the Astron collection, combining dual-time capability with a 24-hour chronograph. Stated accuracy is ±15 seconds per month without a GPS signal, at temperatures between 5°C and 35°C.
- Chronograph up to 24 hours in 1/20-second increments — the 1/20-second counter sits at 9 o'clock, and the 24-hour counter (hours and minutes) runs at 6 o'clock during chronograph operation. Split-time capability lets you record an intermediate reading without stopping the count.
- Dual time on a 24-hour display — the second time zone is read in hours and minutes on a 24-hour sub-dial, so there is no separate AM/PM indicator to interpret. The main hands can also be set manually to a different zone.
- Titanium bezel with super-hard coating, partially plated in yellow gold-colour — the gold runs on the inner bezel ring and is picked up again by the indexes and hands, so the warm tone reads as a deliberate line through the design rather than a single highlight.
- Black textured dial with a geometric pattern behind three horizontally arranged sub-dials, laid out symmetrically across the dial.
- GPS time and time zone adjustment — with high-speed time zone adjustment, automatic daylight saving adjustment, a time transfer function to swap main dial and sub-dial readings, and a signal reception result indication.
- World time function covering 38 time zones, plus a perpetual calendar correct to the year 2100 and a power reserve indicator on the dial.
- Black extra-strength silicone strap — reinforced silicone built for active wear, with the resilience to handle sweat, humidity and a rinse under fresh water.
- Quick-change strap system — a button release on the case lets you remove and fit straps without tools. Seiko's reinforced silicone straps in white and black (RA01B14WT, RA01B14BK) are compatible and sold separately.
- Titanium case with super-hard coating — lighter than stainless steel, with a surface treatment that raises hardness against everyday scuffing.
- Sapphire crystal with super-clear coating — the coating cuts reflections, and sapphire rates 9 on the Mohs hardness scale.
- LumiBrite on hands and markers, date and day-of-the-week displays, magnetic resistance of 4,800 A/m and 100-metre water resistance.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this model come with a titanium bracelet?
No. The HAB003J1 ships on a black extra-strength silicone strap — that is what distinguishes it from the bracelet models in the range. The case takes Seiko's quick-change system, so straps swap without tools, and Seiko's compatible silicone straps in white and black are sold separately.
Where exactly is the gold?
The titanium bezel is partially plated in a yellow gold colour on the inner ring, and the indexes and hands are gold-toned to match. The rest of the case is titanium with a super-hard coating in its natural silver finish, and the dial is black. It is an accent treatment, not a gold-tone watch.
What is new about Calibre 5X63?
Three things over the previous Astron chronograph calibre. The chronograph now measures up to 24 hours instead of 12. The second time zone is read on a 24-hour sub-dial rather than a 12-hour one, which does away with a separate AM/PM indicator. And the new movement allowed Seiko to arrange the sub-dials horizontally and slim the case to 12.4mm.
Why does a 24-hour chronograph matter?
Because most stopwatches stop counting at 12 hours, which means a long-haul flight, an overnight drive or a full working day has to be tracked mentally once the counter wraps around. This one runs a complete 24-hour cycle on a single measurement, in 1/20-second increments, with split-time capability for intermediate readings.
What does GPS Solar actually do?
The watch receives signals from GPS satellites to identify where it is, then adjusts its time and time zone to match — with a high-speed time zone adjustment and automatic daylight saving correction. Manual time adjustment is available if you prefer to set it yourself. All the energy for this comes from light striking the dial.
Do I ever need to change the battery?
No. The HAB003J1 charges from any light source into a rechargeable cell. A full charge runs the watch for approximately six months, and the power save function extends that to around two years when it is left in the dark. Everyday wear keeps it topped up indefinitely.
How do I care for the silicone strap?
Rinse it with fresh water after exposure to sweat, salt water or chlorine, and dry it before storing. Silicone attracts dust and lint, so an occasional wipe keeps it looking clean. Keep it away from solvents, and avoid leaving it in direct sunlight for extended periods when not being worn.
Can I swim with this watch?
Yes. At 100-metre water resistance it is rated for swimming and recreational water activity, and the silicone strap suits water use better than leather or metal. It is not a diver's watch and is not rated for scuba diving. Do not operate the crown or the chronograph pushers while the watch is submerged.
How does 43.4mm wear?
Better than the number suggests. The case is 12.4mm thick — a full millimetre slimmer than the outgoing Astron chronograph — and the two-piece octagonal bezel is designed to keep the centre of gravity low. Titanium and silicone together make this the lightest configuration in the range. Try it on at any City Chain outlet if you are between sizes.
Will the gold plating wear off?
The gold-coloured plating sits on the bezel over a super-hard coated titanium base and is durable for everyday wear, but like any plating it will show marks over time if it is repeatedly knocked against hard edges. Avoid abrasives and chemicals such as chlorine and perfume, and rinse with fresh water after saltwater or pool exposure.
How does this compare to the other models in the range?
All share the same 43.4mm titanium case, Calibre 5X63 and quick-change system. The HAB001J1 has a blue-grey dial on a titanium bracelet and the HAB002J1 is the black-dialled bracelet version. The HAB003J1 is the only one with gold-tone accents and the only one supplied on silicone. Browse the full Seiko Astron collection.
