The Seiko Astron HAB001J1 introduces Calibre 5X63, the newest GPS Solar movement in the Astron collection and the first to run its chronograph out to 24 hours rather than 12. That single change reframes what the watch is for: a full day of elapsed time on one measurement, in 1/20-second increments, with split-time capability. The second time zone also moves to a 24-hour sub-dial, which removes any ambiguity about whether it is morning or evening where you are not.
The case is new too. At 43.4mm across and 12.4mm thick, it is noticeably slimmer than the outgoing generation, built in titanium with a super-hard coating and fitted with a two-piece octagonal titanium bezel — brushed across the top, polished down the faceted sides. The blue-grey dial carries a geometric pattern of interlocking triangles behind three horizontally arranged sub-dials, and the case takes a quick-change strap system: press a button, the bracelet comes off, press a silicone strap into place and it is secure.

Why You'll Love It
- A 24-hour chronograph. Most stopwatches cap out at 12 hours, which means anything longer has to be tracked in your head. This one measures a full day in one go, with split times along the way.
- It sets itself. The watch connects to the GPS network to adjust its time and time zone, with a high-speed time zone adjustment and automatic daylight saving correction on top.
- Light alone runs it — approximately six months from a full charge, with a power save mode of around two years. No battery to replace.
- The quick-change system means one press of a button swaps the titanium bracelet for a silicone strap. Same watch, completely different register, no tools and no trip to a service counter.
- At 12.4mm, this is the slimmest case the Astron chronograph has worn, and the two-piece octagonal bezel is designed to sit the weight low for better balance on the wrist.
- The dial's interlocking triangle pattern gives the blue-grey depth and movement under light, with three horizontal sub-dials arranged symmetrically rather than stacked.
- Perpetual calendar to 2100 and a world time function covering 38 time zones — the date and day never need correcting, and the whole map is on the watch.

Key Features
- Calibre 5X63 GPS Solar movement — the newest GPS Solar calibre in the Astron collection, combining dual-time capability with a 24-hour chronograph. Stated accuracy is ±15 seconds per month without a GPS signal, at temperatures between 5°C and 35°C.
- Chronograph up to 24 hours in 1/20-second increments — the 1/20-second counter sits at 9 o'clock, and the 24-hour counter (hours and minutes) runs at 6 o'clock during chronograph operation. Split-time capability lets you record an intermediate reading without stopping the count.
- Dual time on a 24-hour display — the second time zone is read in hours and minutes on a 24-hour sub-dial, so there is no separate AM/PM indicator to interpret. The main hands can also be set manually to a different zone.
- GPS time and time zone adjustment — with high-speed time zone adjustment, automatic daylight saving adjustment, a time transfer function to swap main dial and sub-dial readings, and a signal reception result indication.
- World time function covering 38 time zones, plus a perpetual calendar correct to the year 2100 and a power reserve indicator on the dial.
- Quick-change strap system — a button release on the case lets you remove the bracelet and press a new strap into place without tools. Seiko's reinforced silicone straps in white and black (RA01B14WT, RA01B14BK) are compatible and sold separately.
- Titanium case and bracelet with super-hard coating — lighter than stainless steel, with a surface treatment that raises hardness against everyday scuffing.
- Two-piece octagonal titanium bezel — brushed on the top surface, polished down the faceted sides, and shaped to lower the centre of gravity for better balance on the wrist.
- Sapphire crystal with super-clear coating — the coating cuts reflections, and sapphire rates 9 on the Mohs hardness scale.
- LumiBrite on hands and markers, date and day-of-the-week displays, and a magnetic resistance rating of 4,800 A/m.
- Easy-adjust three-fold clasp with push-button release and 100-metre water resistance.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is new about Calibre 5X63?
Three things over the previous Astron chronograph calibre. The chronograph now measures up to 24 hours instead of 12. The second time zone is read on a 24-hour sub-dial rather than a 12-hour one, which does away with a separate AM/PM indicator. And the new movement allowed Seiko to arrange the sub-dials horizontally and slim the case to 12.4mm.
Why does a 24-hour chronograph matter?
Because most stopwatches stop counting at 12 hours, which means a long-haul flight, an overnight drive or a full working day has to be tracked mentally once the counter wraps around. This one runs a complete 24-hour cycle on a single measurement, in 1/20-second increments, with split-time capability for intermediate readings.
What does GPS Solar actually do?
The watch receives signals from GPS satellites to identify where it is, then adjusts its time and time zone to match — with a high-speed time zone adjustment and automatic daylight saving correction. Manual time adjustment is available if you prefer to set it yourself. All the energy for this comes from light striking the dial.
Do I ever need to change the battery?
No. The HAB001J1 charges from any light source into a rechargeable cell. A full charge runs the watch for approximately six months, and the power save function extends that to around two years when it is left in the dark. Everyday wear keeps it topped up indefinitely.
How does the quick-change strap system work?
A button on the case releases the bracelet or strap without tools or spring bar levers. A replacement presses into place until it locks. Seiko offers reinforced silicone straps in white and black that are compatible with this case, sold separately, so the same watch can run formal on titanium and casual on silicone.
How does the dual-time function work?
The second time zone is displayed on a 24-hour sub-dial in hours and minutes, so a glance tells you both the time and whether it is day or night in the other zone. The time transfer function swaps the main dial and sub-dial readings, letting you promote your second zone to the main hands on arrival. The main hands can also be adjusted manually to a different zone.
How does 43.4mm wear?
Better than the number suggests. The case is 12.4mm thick — a full millimetre slimmer than the outgoing Astron chronograph — and the two-piece octagonal bezel is designed to keep the centre of gravity low. Titanium construction takes weight out of the equation. Try it on at any City Chain outlet if you are between sizes.
Can I swim with this watch?
Yes. At 100-metre water resistance it is rated for swimming and recreational water activity. It is not a diver's watch and is not rated for scuba diving. Do not operate the crown or the chronograph pushers while the watch is submerged, and rinse with fresh water after salt or chlorine exposure.
How durable is titanium with a super-hard coating?
Bare titanium marks more readily than steel, which is why Seiko applies a super-hard surface treatment across the case, bezel and bracelet. It resists the everyday scuffs picked up from desks, door frames and bag straps. It remains a surface treatment, so a hard impact against a sharp edge can still leave a mark. Avoid abrasives and solvents.
How does this compare to the Crystal Box models?
The Crystal Box references such as the SSJ013J1 are 41.2mm three-hand watches on Calibre 3X62 — smaller, simpler, more dress-leaning, with no chronograph or dual time. The HAB001J1 is the full-function traveller: dual time, 24-hour chronograph, world time and a quick-change strap system in a larger case. Browse the full Seiko Astron collection.
Is the bracelet adjustable?
Yes. Links can be added or removed to size the titanium bracelet, and the three-fold clasp has an easy-adjust mechanism for fine-tuning fit without tools. City Chain offers complimentary bracelet sizing at any outlet — bring your warranty book along for the service.
What warranty does this watch come with?
The HAB001J1 comes with a 3-year warranty when purchased from City Chain Singapore, an authorised Seiko retailer. Keep your warranty card and proof of purchase — both are required when submitting the watch for service.
