When should I not set the date?
Avoid setting the date between 9:00 pm and 1:00 am. Seiko's calibre 4R35 manual states that setting it during these hours may damage the movement. If you need to change the date inside that window, move the hands past 1:00 am first, set the date, then bring the time back.
How accurate is it?
Seiko states calibre 4R35 at +45 to −35 seconds per day, and that figure applies only when the watch is worn on the wrist at temperatures between 5°C and 35°C. A mechanical watch left off the wrist, or kept much hotter or colder than that, will run outside it.
What happens if I do not wear it for a day or two?
It stops. The power reserve is approximately 41 hours from a full wind, so a watch set down on Friday evening will usually have stopped by Sunday. Wind it by hand, reset the time and date, and carry on — that is normal for a mechanical watch and does it no harm.
Can I wear it swimming?
The case is rated 5 bar, and Seiko's own water-resistance table for this calibre describes 5 bar as suitable for sports such as swimming. The strap is the part that limits it: leather is not suited to repeated immersion, and will stiffen and mark if it is soaked. Treat it as a watch that will survive rain and handwashing rather than one to swim in, and never operate the crown while it is wet.
Does an automatic watch need servicing?
Yes. A mechanical movement runs on lubricated moving parts that wear over years of use, so periodic servicing keeps it running to specification. Bring the watch to any City Chain store for servicing.
Can the strap be changed to a different length?
The strap is cow leather on a three-fold clasp with a push-button release. Strap adjustment is available in store — bring your warranty book along for the service.
