Seiko Prospex HBC007J1 — Land Automatic GMT

The Seiko Prospex HBC007J1 is the first Alpinist to carry the new calibre 6R54 — Seiko's purpose-built GMT movement with a 72-hour power reserve, designed specifically for the Prospex Land collection. The 6R54 adds a true 24-hour GMT hand for dual-timezone tracking to the Alpinist's signature rotating compass inner ring, creating a field watch that handles both navigation and time-zone crossings in a single, compact 39.5 mm case. Built on the Alpinist platform that traces its lineage back to Seiko's original 1959 mountaineering watches, the HBC007J1 combines super hard coating on the stainless steel case, a curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, and 20 bar (200 metres) water resistance — a specification level that makes it as capable on a river crossing as it is on a summit ridge. The cow-leather strap and three-fold clasp keep it grounded in the Alpinist's field-watch identity, while the see-through screw case back reveals the new movement's finishing.

Key Features

  • NEW Seiko calibre 6R54 automatic GMT movement with manual winding and stop seconds — 24 jewels, purpose-built for the Prospex Land collection
  • 24-hour GMT hand with red tip — true dual-timezone display for travellers and field professionals, read against the 24-hour bezel scale
  • Approx. 72-hour (3-day) power reserve — set it down Friday, pick it up Monday
  • Accuracy: +25/−15 seconds per day — reliable daily-wear precision from the 6R5 calibre family
  • Rotating compass inner ring — the signature Alpinist feature for field navigation, operated via the crown
  • 39.5 mm stainless steel case with super hard coating — 13.6 mm thick / 46.4 mm lug-to-lug, compact and scratch-resistant for field use
  • Curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on inner surface — premium clarity, scratch resistance, and reduced glare at oblique reading angles
  • LumiBrite on hands and indexes — full low-light legibility in the field or under canopy
  • 20 bar (200 metres) water resistance — handles rain, river crossings, and recreational diving
  • Magnetic resistance 4,800 A/m — protection in everyday and field environments
  • Screw-down crown — water integrity protection for demanding conditions
  • See-through screw case back — exhibition window reveals the 6R54 movement
  • Cow leather strap with three-fold push-button clasp on 20 mm lugs — field-appropriate material with secure closure

Why You'll Love It

The HBC007J1 is the Alpinist that travellers and field professionals have been waiting for — a true GMT complication on the compact, historically grounded Alpinist platform. The new 6R54 calibre is not a modified time-only movement with a GMT hand bolted on; it is a purpose-designed dual-timezone calibre with the same 72-hour power reserve and +25/−15 accuracy as Seiko's best current-generation automatics. Combined with the Alpinist's signature compass inner ring, it gives you directional orientation and dual-timezone tracking in a single watch — two functions that competing field watches typically split across separate models or separate complications. The 20 bar water resistance is unusually high for a land watch and makes the HBC007J1 genuinely amphibious: it handles a river ford or a rain-soaked bivouac as confidently as it handles a timezone change at the airport. At 39.5 mm with super hard coating, it wears compact enough for a shirt cuff yet tough enough for a scramble up scree. If you want one watch for travel and the outdoors, this is the Prospex to choose.

The Seiko Prospex Story

Prospex is a combination of the words "Professional" and "Specifications." Seiko Prospex timepieces are designed to be practical, reliable, and durable — built to meet the high standards required in extreme environments for sports lovers and adventure seekers alike. The story begins in 1881, when Kintaro Hattori founded a clock and watch shop in Ginza, Tokyo — the business that would become the Seiko of today. The Alpinist lineage within Prospex dates back to 1959, when Seiko created its first watch specifically for mountaineering — and the Land collection has carried that field-watch heritage forward through every subsequent generation. The HBC007J1 is the most technically complete Alpinist produced to date, adding the new 6R54 GMT calibre to a platform defined by compass functionality and all-terrain capability.
