Limited Edition — 6,000 Pieces

Every Cocktail Time reference takes a drink and puts its colour on the dial. For Seiko's 145th anniversary the drink did not exist yet, so one was made: the Edo Murasaki, mixed specifically for the occasion. Murasaki is the Japanese word for violet, and the classic cocktails carrying the name tend toward floral notes — violet liqueur with gin or vodka, sometimes with Japanese ingredients such as shiso or lychee.

The Seiko Presage HCB006J1 renders that in a radial-patterned dial in Edo purple, the colour Seiko has chosen to mark the traditions carried from ancient Edo through to modern-day Tokyo. The Seiko logo and the GMT hand are picked out in gold against it. Underneath, Calibre 4R34 drives a 24-hour hand that turns once a day, so a second time zone can be carried alongside the main display. The 40.5mm case sits beneath a box-shaped Hardlex crystal, the case back is see-through and marked LIMITED EDITION, and the run is capped at 6,000 pieces.

Why You'll Love It

  • The cocktail was invented for this watch. Rather than adapting an existing drink, Seiko created the Edo Murasaki for its 145th anniversary and built the dial around it.
  • Purple is rare on a dress watch and rarer still done well. The radial pattern keeps the colour moving as the light crosses it rather than leaving a flat block of tone.
  • Gold on the logo and on the GMT hand alone. It marks out the second time zone at a glance and keeps the rest of the dial uncluttered.
  • A second time zone on a dress watch. The 24-hour hand turns once a day, so it can be set to keep a home city in view while you are working in another one.
  • A limited run of 6,000 pieces, with LIMITED EDITION marked on the case back.
  • Box-shaped Hardlex is the detail that gives Cocktail Time its look — the crystal rises with a squared edge that catches light along its rim.
  • No battery. Calibre 4R34 winds itself from the motion of your wrist, and can be wound by hand when it has been sitting.
  • The see-through case back leaves the movement visible — and on this reference it sits behind the limited edition marking.
  • A date window and a stop-second function, so the watch can be set precisely to a time signal and then left to run.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which cocktail is this one based on?

The Edo Murasaki, created specifically for Seiko's 145th anniversary rather than taken from an existing recipe. Murasaki is the Japanese word for violet, and classic cocktails under that name tend to be floral — violet liqueur with gin or vodka, sometimes with Japanese ingredients such as shiso or lychee.

What is the Seiko 145th anniversary?

Seiko was founded in 1881, which makes 2026 its 145th year. The anniversary collection is split into three series, each with its own theme — gold accents, Seiko Blue, and Edo purple. This watch belongs to the third, and Seiko describes Edo-murasaki as reflecting the traditions passed on from ancient Edo to modern-day Tokyo and the spirit of creativity.

What is the Cocktail Time collection?

It is a Presage line inspired by the craft of the Japanese bar, where each reference takes a cocktail and translates its colour and character onto the dial. The signature elements are a richly finished dial and a box-shaped crystal that rises above the bezel.

What does the 24-hour hand do?

It completes one rotation every 24 hours rather than every 12, which allows it to indicate a second time zone alongside the main hour and minute hands. Seiko designates this a dual time display function, and picks the hand out in gold so it reads clearly against the purple dial. The instruction manual supplied with the watch covers the setting procedure.

How does the automatic movement work?

A weighted rotor inside Calibre 4R34 turns as your wrist moves, winding the mainspring. Wearing it through a normal day keeps it running. You can also wind it by hand using the crown, which is the quickest way to start it from cold.

What happens if I do not wear it for a few days?

It stops. The power reserve is approximately 41 hours from a full wind, so a watch set down on Friday evening will usually have stopped by Sunday. Wind it by hand, reset the time and date, and carry on. This is normal for a mechanical watch and does no harm.

How accurate is it?

Seiko states +45 to -35 seconds per day for this calibre. In practice most owners check it against a phone every week or two and adjust as needed. Accuracy varies with how the watch is worn, how much the mainspring is wound, and the position it rests in overnight. The stop second hand function makes resetting to an exact reference straightforward.

Can I swim or shower with it?

No. This watch is rated to 50 metres, which covers everyday wear, handwashing and rain, but it is not intended for swimming, showering or any prolonged immersion. Keep it away from hot water and steam in particular, as heat is harder on case seals than depth is.

What can I see through the case back?

The movement itself — the balance wheel oscillating, the rotor turning as you move, the gear train running. On this reference the case back also carries the LIMITED EDITION marking that identifies it as part of the anniversary run.

How does 40.5mm wear?

It sits in the middle of the dress watch range — larger than a classic 38mm, smaller than most sports models. The 47.5mm lug-to-lug measurement matters more than the diameter for fit, and at that figure it should sit within the width of most wrists. At 12.8mm thick the box crystal adds some height, so it reads slightly more substantial than the diameter suggests. Any City Chain outlet can put it on your wrist.

Can the bracelet be adjusted?

Yes. Links can be added or removed to size it, and the deployment clasp opens on a push button release rather than a pin buckle, which is more secure and easier to fasten one-handed. City Chain offers complimentary bracelet sizing at any outlet; bring your warranty book along for the service.

Does a mechanical watch need servicing?

Yes, eventually. A mechanical movement runs on lubricated moving parts that wear over years of use, so a service every few years keeps it running to specification. City Chain can arrange servicing through Seiko's authorised service network — bring your warranty book.

What warranty does this watch come with?

The HCB006J1 comes with a 3-year warranty when purchased from City Chain Singapore, an authorised Seiko retailer. Keep your warranty card and proof of purchase — both are required when submitting the watch for service.
