This watch was chosen by the public. To mark 60 years since the 1965 diver's watch — Seiko's first — the company ran a global 1965 Diver New Model Voting Campaign, putting four dial designs to its collectors. Each interpreted the sea at a different hour, from sunrise to sunset. The Seiko Prospex HBC011J1 is the one that won, and Seiko states that only the blue-dial model will be made commercially available.

The winning design is a daytime blue dial inspired by the ocean under the midday sun. It shifts with the angle of the light, and Seiko notes that it stays legible submerged and in low light. Across it runs a pattern drawn from the wave mark that has been engraved on the case backs of Seiko diver's watches since 1975 as the sign of a tested professional instrument. Beneath is Calibre 6R55, with a 72-hour power reserve — three full days — inside a 40.0mm steel case rated to 300 metres for diving.
