Is the case gold or stainless steel?
Both, in a sense. The case, bezel and bracelet are stainless steel with a gold-tone ion-plated finish applied across the whole watch. It is not solid gold. Ion plating bonds the colour to the steel rather than sitting on the surface like paint, so it wears considerably better than a coated finish.
Which Petite Palidoro should I choose?
Same case, same movement, same crystal-set bezel — the finish and dial change. The EG7112-59D is gold-tone with a white mother-of-pearl dial and black indices, the warmer and more classic of the two. Why are there only two hands?
By design. The Petite Palidoro shows hours and minutes only, with no seconds hand. On a small deco dial a sweeping seconds hand adds visual noise; leaving it out keeps the dial still and lets the framed indices carry the design.
What is a mother-of-pearl dial?
Mother-of-pearl is the natural iridescent lining of a shell, cut into a thin layer and used as the dial surface. Because it is a natural material, the grain and the way light plays across it differ from piece to piece — your dial will not be identical to anyone else's.
What are the stones on the bezel?
Crystals, set on either side of the rectangular bezel. They catch light across the case without turning the watch into a fully stone-set piece, which keeps it wearable in an office as well as in the evening.
How does Eco-Drive work?
A solar cell beneath the dial converts light into electrical energy and stores it in a rechargeable cell. Any light works — sunlight through a window, office lighting, a lamp. Normal daily wear keeps it running indefinitely, and there is no battery to replace at any point in the watch's life.
What happens if I don't wear it for a while?
A fully charged watch keeps running for approximately eight months in complete darkness. If it does stop, leaving it in bright light for a few hours restarts it and you simply reset the time. Storing it face-up near a window rather than in a closed drawer avoids the issue entirely.
Can I swim or shower with this watch?
No. With 30-metre (3 BAR) water resistance it is rated for handwashing and rain only. Do not wear it swimming, showering or in a bath — steam and hot water are particularly hard on seals at this rating, and prolonged water contact is also the fastest way to wear a gold-tone finish.
How do I care for the gold-tone finish?
Wipe the case and bracelet with a soft dry cloth after wear, and keep the watch away from perfume, hairspray and cleaning products — spray those before putting it on. Ion plating is durable, but any coloured finish shows wear more visibly than bare steel, so the clasp and bracelet edges are worth protecting.
Will this fit a small wrist?
Yes. At 14.8mm across and 6.5mm thick, the case is narrow and very slim, so it sits comfortably on slender wrists where a round dress watch would look oversized. The rectangular shape also follows the line of the wrist rather than cutting across it.
Is the bracelet adjustable?
