In 1976, Citizen introduced the world's first analogue light-powered watch. The Eco-Drive PHOTON marks that technology's 50th anniversary, and this is the black-and-gold execution — limited to 5,000 individually numbered pieces worldwide.
The dial is built in layers. Two metal plates with ripple-like slits sit one over the other, and beneath them is a gold structural colour film placed directly over the solar cell. Light entering through the slits produces colours that shift as you move, in a three-dimensional effect that changes in real time. The design references the double-slit experiment — the physics demonstration that revealed light behaves as both wave and particle. Black hands and a purple seconds hand provide the contrast.

Roughly 6 months from a complete charge. Caliber E036 is Citizen's new next-generation Eco-Drive movement, and a full redesign of its circuit system is what delivers that. In normal wear it simply stays charged; the year-long reserve is the margin for extended periods in a drawer.
What is Super Titanium™ and what does Duratect do?
Super Titanium™ is Citizen's proprietary titanium, treated with their Duratect surface-hardening process. It's substantially lighter than stainless steel, highly scratch-resistant and hypoallergenic.
