The G-SHOCK GG-B100XMH-5ADR is the Mudmaster in Master in Horizon Gold, a Master of G colourway drawn from the golden band of light where the earth meets the sky. A stainless steel bezel finished in light yellow gold ion plating sits over the carbon case, key metal components carry brown ion plating, and the whole thing runs on a dark brown resin band. It is the warmest the Mudmaster gets without losing anything underneath.

The construction is unchanged from the rest of the GG-B100X family: a carbon fibre-reinforced resin case built on Carbon Core Guard, a filter guarding against mud, and a back cover of shock-resistant fine resin strengthened with glass fibre. That earns the mud-resistant rating alongside 200-metre water resistance. The metal bezel adds 11 grams over the resin-bezel version, bringing it to 104 grams.

Functionally it is the full Master of G land package: Quad Sensor with digital compass, altimeter, barometer and thermometer, plus a 3-axis accelerometer for step counting. Bluetooth pairing with the CASIO WATCHES app corrects the time automatically and opens the Mission Log, which records altitude from the watch against route data from your phone.

Why You'll Love It

  • Master in Horizon Gold is a considered colourway rather than a gold finish applied for its own sake — light yellow gold ion plating on the bezel, brown ion plating on key metal components, dark brown resin band, all pulled from the tone of a horizon at sunrise.
  • Ion plating is a bonded surface treatment rather than a coating laid on top, so the gold finish holds up to the kind of contact this watch is built for.
  • Four sensors in one watch — compass, altimeter, barometer and thermometer — plus a step counter, so you can read the terrain and the weather without reaching for a phone.
  • Mud resistance is a separate rating from water resistance, and very few watches carry it. A dedicated filter and a sealed carbon structure keep grit and slurry out of the module, not just water.
  • At 104 grams the metal bezel adds presence without the weight penalty you would expect. The carbon fibre-reinforced case is what absorbs that difference.
  • Bluetooth pairing handles time correction automatically through the CASIO WATCHES app, and the Mission Log builds a record of where you went and how high you climbed.
  • The double LED system lights both the analog face and the digital display, with Super Illuminator brightness and selectable 1.5 or 3 second duration plus afterglow.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Master in Horizon Gold?

It is a Master of G series built around the colour of the horizon where earth meets sky. The design uses a metal bezel in light yellow gold ion plating with key metal components accented in brown ion plating, paired with a dark brown resin band. The GG-B100XMH-5A is the Mudmaster in the series, alongside the GR-B300H-5A and the GW-9500MH-5.

Will the gold finish wear off?

Ion plating bonds the finish to the steel at a molecular level rather than laying a coating on the surface, which makes it considerably more durable than conventional plating. It will still show wear over years of heavy contact with abrasive surfaces. Rinse with fresh water after exposure to salt or grit, and avoid spraying solvents or cleaning chemicals directly onto the bezel.

What is the Quad Sensor and what does it measure?

Quad Sensor is G-SHOCK's four-sensor package: a digital compass reading direction to 16 points, an altimeter covering −700 to 10,000 metres, a barometer covering 260 to 1,100 hPa with a pressure tendency graph and change alarm, and a thermometer covering −10 to 60°C. A 3-axis accelerometer adds step counting on top.

What does mud resistant mean, and how is it different from water resistant?

Water resistance keeps liquid out. Mud resistance keeps solids out — grit, sand, slurry and debris that can work into button shafts and case seams where water alone would drain away. This model uses a dedicated filter against mud, a sealed carbon fibre-reinforced case and a back cover of shock-resistant resin strengthened with glass fibre. Both ratings apply here: mud resistant and 200 metres.

Is this watch solar powered?

No. The GG-B100XMH-5ADR runs on a CR2025 battery with a life of approximately two years. It corrects its own time over Bluetooth rather than by solar or radio signal, so there is no charging behaviour to manage — just a battery change roughly every two years, which any City Chain outlet can handle.

How does this compare to the resin-bezel GG-B100X models?

Module, sensors, construction and the 200-metre rating are identical. The difference is the bezel: the XMH uses a stainless steel bezel with gold ion plating where the GG-B100X-1A, 1A3 and 1A9 use a carbon fibre bezel in resin. That takes the weight from 93 grams to 104 grams and changes the register from equipment to something with more presence.

Can I swim or dive with it?

You can swim and snorkel with it. 200-metre (20 BAR) water resistance covers swimming, surfing and recreational water sports. It is not rated for saturation diving or use with helium-based gas mixtures. Avoid operating the buttons while the watch is submerged.

Is 55.4mm too big for my wrist?

It is a large watch by any standard. At 104 grams it stays manageable through a full day, but the 51.3mm width will overhang on wrists under about 16cm. The band fits 145mm to 215mm. Worth trying on in store before you commit.

Can the resin band be shortened?

The bio-based resin band is a buckle-and-holes design covering 145mm to 215mm with no tooling required. Unlike a metal bracelet there are no links to remove, so there is no in-store sizing step — set it to the hole that fits and you are done.
