What's the difference between the GBA-950-2ADR (purple) and the GBA-950-1A (black)?
Identical specs, different colourways. The GBA-950-2ADR uses a deep plum/purple bio-based resin case and band with a black dial — a more expressive, streetwear-forward look. The GBA-950-1A is fully blacked out for a more understated, stealth-focused appearance. Both run Module 5737 with the same origami-engineered band construction, carbon fibre-reinforced case, and fitness functions. Choose purple if you want your G-Shock to make a statement; choose black if you want it to disappear.
Which GBA-950 should I buy? A quick buying guide.
The GBA-950 comes in three colourways with identical specs. The GBA-950-1A (black) is the safest, most versatile option. The GBA-950-2ADR (deep purple) is the boldest and most fashion-forward. The GBA-950-7A (white) is the cleanest and most casual, but shows dirt faster. All three share the same origami-engineered band, carbon fibre case, and Module 5737 fitness functions — pick based on wardrobe and personality.
How does the GBA-950 compare to the GBD-200?
The GBA-950 is the analog-digital upgrade. It adds real watch hands with phosphorescent lume, a hand shift feature, an exercise intensity gauge, a step goal progress indicator, an origami-engineered band, carbon fibre-reinforced case, bio-based resin, and double LED lighting. The GBD-200 is pure digital with an MIP display, full smart notifications (including vibration), and deeper training memory (100 runs vs the GBA-950's 45). Choose the GBA-950 if you want a watch that looks like a watch. Choose the GBD-200 if you want maximum training data storage and richer notifications.
What is origami engineering and why does it matter?
The band was co-developed with OUTSENSE Inc., a company specialising in applying Japanese paper-folding principles to industrial design. The band's base sections use precisely calculated mountain and valley fold angles. When tightened, these folds cause the sides of the strap to pull outward, pressing the case flat against the underside of your wrist. The practical result is less bounce and lateral movement during running compared to a conventional flat resin strap.
What does "hand shift" mean?
When you access certain digital functions (stopwatch data, step counts, timer), the analog hour and minute hands physically rotate out of the way so they don't block the digital display at 6 o'clock. They return to the correct time position automatically when you exit the function. It solves the biggest annoyance of analog-digital watches — hands covering the digits you're trying to read.
Does it have GPS?
No built-in GPS. The watch calibrates distance via your smartphone's GPS through the CASIO WATCHES app. Once calibrated, the accelerometer tracks distance, pace, and calories independently — so you can run phoneless on routes you've already mapped. This keeps the weight at 53g and the battery life at 2 years.
Does it receive full smart notifications like the GBD-200?
No. The GBA-950 supports simple notifications — tone alert only. It will beep when a notification arrives, but it won't display the content on the watch face and there's no vibration option. If full notification display (calls, emails, social media content on-wrist) is important to you, the GBD-200 is the better choice.
Can I swim with this watch?
Yes. The GBA-950-2ADR is rated to 200 metres (20 BAR), which covers swimming, snorkelling, and recreational surface water sports. It is not rated for scuba diving. The step counter and training functions are designed for land-based activities.
What warranty does this watch come with?
The GBA-950-2ADR comes with Casio's official 1-year warranty when purchased from City Chain Singapore, an authorised Casio retailer.
