The Citizen CA0770-72M is a working chronograph that never needs a battery. The stopwatch measures to one-fifth of a second and runs up to 60 minutes, with a 12/24-hour display and a date window alongside it β three sub-dials that do something rather than sit there for looks.
It runs on Eco-Drive. Any light charges it, natural or artificial, and a full charge holds roughly seven months in darkness. No battery, ever β which matters more on a chronograph than on a plain three-hander, because running the stopwatch is exactly what drains a conventional quartz cell fastest. The Calibre B612 keeps time to approximately Β±15 seconds a month.
The case is 43mm stainless steel at 12.5mm thick, with a screw-down caseback and a blue dial in Citizen's Beginning Blue palette. Luminous hands and markers, hardened mineral glass, and 100-metre water resistance on a steel bracelet with a safety folding clasp.

Why You'll Love It
- A chronograph that never needs a battery. Running the stopwatch is what flattens a conventional quartz cell fastest, so people stop using it β with Eco-Drive there is no reason to hold back.
- The stopwatch is genuinely precise: one-fifth of a second resolution, running up to 60 minutes. That is useful for timing anything from a run to a meeting, not just decorative sub-dials.
- Seven months of reserve from a full charge means it survives being left in a drawer through most of a year and is still running when you pick it up.
- Quartz accuracy of around 15 seconds a month β set it and forget it, with none of the daily drift a mechanical chronograph carries.
- 100-metre water resistance is a real rating, not a token one. Swimming and water sports are fine, which is unusual for a dress-leaning chronograph.
- The 12/24-hour display is quietly useful if you travel, read military time, or work shifts β it is there without cluttering the dial.
- At 43mm this has proper presence on the wrist, which is what most people want from a chronograph. The blue dial keeps it from reading as purely a tool watch.

Frequently Asked Questions
What can the chronograph actually measure?
Elapsed time to one-fifth of a second, running up to a maximum of 60 minutes. Press the top pusher to start and stop, the lower pusher to reset. That resolution is fine enough for timing a run, a parking meter, a workout interval or anything else you would otherwise reach for a phone to time.
How does Eco-Drive work?
A solar cell beneath the dial converts light into electrical energy and stores it in a rechargeable cell. Any light works β sunlight, office lighting, a lamp. Normal daily wear keeps it running indefinitely, and there is no battery to replace at any point in the watch's life.
Does using the chronograph drain the charge?
It uses more energy than normal timekeeping, which on a conventional quartz chronograph is why the battery dies sooner if you use the stopwatch often. With Eco-Drive the watch simply recharges in daylight, so there is no reason to leave the function unused.
What happens if I don't wear it for a while?
A fully charged watch keeps running for approximately seven months in complete darkness. If it does stop, leaving it in bright light for a few hours restarts it and you simply reset the time. Storing it face-up near a window rather than in a closed drawer avoids the issue.
What is the insufficient charge warning?
When the charge runs low, the seconds hand starts moving in two-second jumps instead of one. That is the watch telling you it needs light. Place it somewhere bright for a few hours and normal operation resumes.
What does "Beginning Blue" mean?
It is Citizen's name for the blue used on this dial, applied across several models rather than being unique to the chronograph. Treat it as a colour designation rather than a technical specification.
Is the glass sapphire?
No β this model uses hardened mineral glass. It resists everyday knocks well but will pick up fine scratches over years in a way sapphire would not. If sapphire matters to you, look at the Citizen mechanical and Super Titanium ranges, which use it as standard.
Will 43mm fit my wrist?
43mm is a large case and suits wrists from roughly 17cm upward, which is typical for chronographs β the sub-dials need the real estate to stay legible. On a wrist under 16.5cm it will read as substantial. If you want something smaller, look at the non-chronograph Eco-Drive models.
Can I swim with this watch?
Yes. With 100-metre (10 BAR) water resistance it is suitable for swimming and snorkelling. It is not rated for scuba diving. Do not operate the chronograph pushers while the watch is submerged, and rinse with fresh water after saltwater or pool exposure.
Is the bracelet adjustable?
Yes. The stainless steel bracelet can be resized by adding or removing links. City Chain offers complimentary bracelet sizing at any outlet β bring your warranty book along for the service.

The CA0770-72M comes with a 3-year warranty when purchased from City Chain Singapore, an authorised Citizen retailer. Keep your warranty card and proof of purchase β both are required when submitting the watch for service at any City Chain outlet.
