Does the compass bezel actually work?
No — it is a decorative compass ring, not a magnetic compass. The cardinal points are printed on the bezel and the watch has no magnetic sensor, so it will not find north on its own. You can orient it manually using the sun and the hour hand, as with any watch, but treat the ring as a design feature rather than a navigation instrument.
Is the case really black?
Yes. The case and bracelet carry a black finish throughout — this is the black model in its launch series, where the other references use silver-tone cases. The green dial with white markings is what gives it contrast against the dark case.
What can the chronograph measure?
Elapsed time to one-fifth of a second, running up to a maximum of 60 minutes. Press the top pusher to start and stop, the lower pusher to reset. That resolution is fine enough for timing a run, a workout interval, a parking meter or anything else you would otherwise time on a phone.
How does Eco-Drive work?
A solar cell beneath the dial converts light into electrical energy and stores it in a rechargeable cell. Any light works — sunlight, office lighting, a lamp. Normal daily wear keeps it running indefinitely, and there is no battery to replace at any point in the watch's life.
Does using the chronograph drain the charge?
It uses more energy than normal timekeeping, which on a conventional quartz chronograph is why the battery dies sooner if you use the stopwatch often. With Eco-Drive the watch simply recharges in daylight, so there is no reason to leave the function unused.
What happens if I don't wear it for a while?
A fully charged watch keeps running for approximately seven months in complete darkness. If it does stop, leaving it in bright light for a few hours restarts it and you simply reset the time. Storing it face-up near a window rather than in a closed drawer avoids the issue.
What is the insufficient charge warning?
When the charge runs low, the seconds hand starts moving in two-second jumps instead of one. That is the watch telling you it needs light. Place it somewhere bright for a few hours and normal operation resumes.
Will 44mm fit my wrist?
44mm is a large case and suits wrists from roughly 17.5cm upward. Chronographs run large by necessity — the sub-dials need the space to stay legible. Bear in mind that a black case reads slightly smaller on the wrist than a polished steel one of the same size.
Can I swim with this watch?
Yes. With 100-metre (10 BAR) water resistance it is suitable for swimming, showering and snorkelling. It is not rated for scuba diving. Do not operate the chronograph pushers while the watch is submerged, and rinse with fresh water after saltwater or pool exposure to protect the black finish.
How do I care for the black finish?
Wipe the case and bracelet with a soft dry cloth after wear, and keep the watch away from abrasive surfaces and strong chemicals such as cleaning products, chlorine and perfume. Any dark finish shows wear more visibly than bare steel over years, so the clasp and bracelet edges are worth protecting.
Is the glass sapphire?
No — this model uses mineral glass, which resists impact well but will pick up fine scratches over years of daily wear. If sapphire matters to you, the Citizen Super Titanium chronographs use it as standard.
