Seiko introduces unglazed Arita porcelain dials in its Presage collection, a first in the four-century tradition of Arita porcelain. Unlike the usual glossy glazed finish, unglazed porcelain offers a matte white texture that highlights delicate ridges and enhances three-dimensional dial patterns. The new design features a rhombus motif, symbolizing prosperity and good health, with gold hands and indexes providing striking contrast.
Each dial is crafted through a complex, multi-stage process using a specially formulated porcelain that is over four times harder than traditional types. The work is led by master craftsman Hiroyuki Hashiguchi, with production by Toshiaki Kawaguchi and his team at a historic Arita porcelain firm.
This innovation reflects Seiko’s commitment to preserving craftsmanship and fostering sustainable innovation, in line with the United Nations SDG Goal 9.
