Citizen introduced the world's first analogue light-powered watch in 1976, beginning a journey that would develop into the Eco-Drive technology used across Citizen watches today.

Eco-Drive converts light into electrical energy to power the watch. From bright sunlight to everyday indoor lighting, the technology can generate and store energy whenever the dial is exposed to light.

How Does Citizen Eco-Drive Work?

An Eco-Drive watch uses a solar cell positioned beneath the dial to convert light into energy. That energy is stored in a rechargeable power cell and used to run the watch.

Once fully charged, Eco-Drive technology can continue operating for over six months without additional exposure to light. Running time, functions and power-saving features may vary between movements and individual models.

No Regular Battery Changes

Unlike a conventional battery-powered quartz watch, Eco-Drive does not require regular disposable battery replacement. Its rechargeable cell can be charged repeatedly by exposing the watch to light.

This makes Eco-Drive particularly convenient for everyday wear: simply allow the watch regular exposure to light and follow the charging guidance provided for your individual model.

Eco-Drive Watches for Men

Citizen Eco-Drive men's watches range from clean three-hand and date designs to sportier chronographs and advanced Promaster models. Stainless steel, leather and selected Super Titanium™ designs provide different options for work, everyday wear and active use.

Functions vary by model and may include chronographs, world time, radio-controlled timekeeping, perpetual calendars and other advanced features.

Eco-Drive Watches for Women

The Eco-Drive range also includes a broad selection of women's watches, from compact everyday designs to elegant Citizen L models with mother-of-pearl dials, refined metal bracelets and selected sapphire crystal designs.

Eco-Drive allows these watches to combine slim, jewellery-inspired styling with the convenience of light-powered quartz timekeeping.

Selected Citizen watches combine Eco-Drive with Super Titanium™, bringing together light-powered timekeeping with Citizen's proprietary titanium technology.

Super Titanium™ is not used across every Eco-Drive model, so check each product page for its specific case and bracelet material.
