How do I use the chronograph?
The upper pusher starts and stops the timing, and the lower pusher resets it to zero once stopped. The stopwatch measures up to 60 minutes in 1/5-second increments, and the elapsed time is read from the sub-dials while the main hands continue showing the time of day.
What is split time and how do I use it?
Split time lets you take a reading partway through without ending the measurement. While the chronograph is running, the lower pusher freezes the display so you can read an intermediate time; pressing it again returns the hands to the count, which has continued in the background. It is what you use for lap times, or for timing one stage of something longer.
Which hand is the small seconds and which is the chronograph?
The small seconds hand runs continuously on its own sub-dial and tells you the watch is working. The chronograph hand sits still at zero until you start the stopwatch. If you have owned a chronograph before and found a seconds hand parked and motionless, this is why — that is normal, not a fault.
What is the tachymetre scale for?
It converts elapsed time into speed over a known distance. Start the chronograph as you pass a marker, stop it one kilometre later, and the number the chronograph hand points to on the scale is your average speed in kilometres per hour. It works for any unit as long as the distance is one of them, and it only reads speeds fast enough to cover that distance in under a minute.
What is the 24-hour hand for?
It runs on a 24-hour cycle rather than a 12-hour one, so it tells you at a glance whether the time shown is morning or evening. It is useful in low light, and for anyone who works to a 24-hour clock.
How does 41mm wear?
Larger than the diameter alone suggests. The lug-to-lug measurement is 48.0mm, which is long for a 41mm case, so the watch covers more of the wrist than a 41mm figure implies — and at 152 grams on the steel bracelet it has considerable presence. If you prefer a chronograph that sits more discreetly, try it against a smaller reference before deciding. Any City Chain outlet can put both on your wrist.
Is Hardlex the same as sapphire?
No. Hardlex is Seiko's own hardened mineral glass. It resists shattering better than sapphire, but it scratches more easily — sapphire rates 9 on the Mohs hardness scale and mineral glass sits well below that. If a scratch-free crystal is your priority, Seiko fits sapphire to other references in the Conceptual range, including the SSB459P1.
How long does the battery last?
Approximately three years, using an SR936SW cell. Running the chronograph frequently draws more power and can shorten that. When it needs replacing, bring it to any City Chain outlet rather than opening it yourself — the screw case back has to be resealed correctly or the watch loses its water resistance.
Can I swim with it?
Yes. At 100-metre water resistance it handles swimming and recreational water activity. It is not a diver's watch and is not rated for scuba diving. Never operate the crown or the chronograph pushers while the watch is wet — that is the most common way water gets into a chronograph.
Can I change the bracelet for a strap?
Yes. The lug width is 22mm, one of the most widely available sizes, so leather, rubber and mesh straps all fit. A leather strap also takes roughly 50 grams off the watch, which noticeably changes how it wears.
Is the bracelet adjustable?
