Eco-Drive is Citizen's light-powered movement technology. A cell beneath the dial converts any light source — sunlight, a lamp, an overhead office light — into energy stored in a rechargeable cell, so the watch never needs a battery. Wear it normally with occasional light exposure and it stays charged indefinitely.
How long does the charge last if I stop wearing it?
Approximately 6 months from a full charge with no further light exposure. A short session in direct sunlight or under a bright lamp restores charge quickly.
Can I swim or shower with this watch?
The case is rated to 50 metres, which covers handwashing, rain and everyday splashes comfortably. It's not intended for swimming, showering or diving.
Does an Eco-Drive watch need servicing?
Far less than a mechanical watch — there's no mainspring or balance assembly to wear in the same way. The rechargeable cell is designed to last many years under normal use. Bring it to any City Chain outlet if you notice reduced charge retention over time.
